Self-care, self-care, self-care. It’s a hot topic. It’s become a trend, conjuring up images of spas and massages. However, self-care isn’t new. It’s not a fad. It does not belong to a particular movement nor group. It is a necessary component of self-love. It is a vehicle for positive change that can be hard work, a serious undertaking (although it can be fun). In most cases, it is a mindful, meditative practice that requires constant vigilance and careful consideration.
Good self-care benefits from a mastery of intuition and logic. This ability allows you to know what you need, even from moment to moment, to show up as your best self. This can mean creating a safe space mentally and emotionally, making sure you have what you need nutritionally to thrive, understanding when you need rest and rejuvenation and taking it, expressing yourself and your desires clearly, setting boundaries for yourself and others, or even knowing what rates to set for your business or endeavors. These are all examples of good self-care.
Taking care of yourself is your divine right. The Bible says, “Love your neighbor as yourself”. When you hold yourself in high esteem and take care of your needs, your capacity to give, to take care of others, to live your purpose in the world, expands and increases. It is a beautiful synergy. It is a win-win. For as you feel good, you do good…for the greater good.
